All I needed to know about the Universe I learned from Blake's 7

Reality is a dangerous concept.

Having defined the problem, the first step towards a solution is the acquisition of data.

The choice is very simple - you can either fight, or you can die.

Change is inevitable... Why else do we fight?

Dignity, at all costs, dignity.

Trust is only dangerous if you have to rely on it.

He who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.

There is no logical reason why aliens should be hairy.

All knowledge is valuable.

Any very talented person could have done it.

Heroics seldom run to schedule.

It is frequently easier to be honest when you have nothing to lose.

On Earth it is considered ill mannered to kill your friends while committing suicide.

Civilization has always depended on courtesy rather than truth.

I am not expendable, I am not stupid, and I am not going.

Don't launch any theories until you've tested the water.

Show me someone who believes in anything, and I will show you a fool.

In the end, your word is all there is, really.

Some days are better than others, Section Leader.

The only thing you can make me do is die.

All that patience gets you is older.

Regret is part of being alive, but make it a small part.

You should always be careful about getting a second-hand spacecraft.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Nobody is indispensible.

Luck has nothing to do with it.

There are times when even the most cynical must trust in luck.

Everyone's entitled to one, really bad, mistake.

There are other rules - but you'll find out what they are when you break them.

Message about today?

Virtual Six: Commercialism, decadence, technology run amok. Remind you of anything?
Virtual Baltar: Take your pick. Kobol. Earth...the real Earth, before this one. Caprica before the fall.
Virtual Six: All of this has happened before.
Virtual Baltar: But the question remains, does all of this have to happen again?
Virtual Six: This time I bet no.
Virtual Baltar: You know, I've never known you to play the optimist. Why the change of heart?
Virtual Six: Mathematics. Law of averages. Let a complex system repeat itself long enough and eventually something surprising might occur. That, too, is in God's plan.
Virtual Baltar: You know it doesn't like that name.
[Six gives Baltar a defiant look]
Virtual Baltar: Silly me. Silly, silly me. [The two walk arm-in-arm off into the streets.]

WASP Knife

The blade suggests a variety of applications, from special-ops style military use to personal defense for those threatened by large animals on land, or underwater. Indeed, from our perspective, the most legitimate use of the WASP knife would be in scuba diving situations in which, as a last-ditch attempt to avert a full shark attack, one could possibly manage to stab the aggressing shark and blast it out of the marine kingdom. Wasp Knives details such a situation, and notes that the freezing effect of the injected gas will prevent a marine creature from bleeding immediately, while the injected air forces the (hopefully dead) creature to the surface. Such an arrangement would indeed be preferable to the "bangsticks" in use today as underwater shark-killing tools, which use a shotgun shell at the end of a long rod to inflict serious, but messy, damage to the creatures, all too often making a potential feeding frenzy a very real one.

Not Expendable

Vila: Why don't you go?
Avon: You are expendable.
Vila: And you're not?
Avon: No, I am not. I am not expendable, I'm not stupid, and I'm not going.

Before a standing army can rule

Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.

Noah Webster, An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, 1787
